Growing & Forcing Rhubarb
As rhubarb is likely to be in one position for many years, ground preparation is very important. Plenty of organic matter in the form of garden compost or rotted manure should be worked into the soil and base of planting hole. It’s also time to cover any clumps of rhubarb outside that you want to force into early growth. I’m using a terracotta forcing pot, but an old bin or large bucket can be used. The idea is to exclude light from the new shoots which forces them to grow tall and light pink in colour. Depending on the weather, it will be around 6-8 weeks until we can harvest.

what is one of the common forms of composting?
i need help, what are the advantages and disadvantages?
I use a large metal wire cage made out of 8 sections. Each section can be removed to turn it or remove the compost. I envision my compost pile as a circle within the cage and add the new materials at the final third of the compost and save the first third for use. The middle third is "in the oven." I compost kitchen waste, grass clippings, leaves, spent flowers, and a little soil. In the spring I dissolve a packet of dry yeast and water the pile with that which gets the bacteria working in it. I also water the pile a few times in the summer. If you want compost fast, turn your pile often. If you have a good heap and time is on your hands, turn it less often. I suppose mine only gets turned about once before I use it.

How do I chop up compost quickly?
I have a ton of stuff from my garden to compost. Leaving large chunks doesn’t compost very quickly. Is there some product out there that chops your stuff up into smaller, quicker composting material?
I know that garden centres sell equipment to mulch, chip and shred all sorts of plant matter. They range in price depending on how heavy duty they are. They come in small electric versions (suitable for sitting on a garbage can and doing smaller amounts of garden clippings) or larger gas powered ones which can do larger quantities of garden material. They can be found by searching for mulchers/chippers/shredders. They also show up on Kijiji or ebay if you want to buy a used one.

How can I stop my worm compost bin from leaking?
I started composting with worms and I keep the bin in my kitchen. The plastic bin I bought at Target has two tiny holes in the bottom that I didn't notice when I purchased it. I have tried taping over holes in a previous bin I was using and duct tape didn't work. The stuff leaked right through the duct tape. Is there such a thing as water proof tape that i could tape over these holes so that the stinky liquid doesn't leak out? Any other suggestions?
try caulking it.
Kitchen Compost
Kitchen compost is a method where biodegradable materials are turned into soil like substance by combining them with a little air, water and nitrogen. Compost is a dark soil like which functions as a soil conditioner, mulch and fertilizer. If you feed you garden compost material it will in turn feed the microorganisms that produce healthy and strong plants.
When making your own compost pile, try to find a place near your garden. But try to position the compost pile so it is as concealed as possible. You do not want the compost pile to be the attention getter leave that for the garden. As the saying goes “hide in plain sight”.
