Compost Tea from the Bokashi Indoor Kitchen Composter

After 4 weeks, the composter has produced about a 1/4 cup of compost tea. I didn't add any water to the composter – all of this liquid came from anaerobic bacteria breaking up the fruit and vegetable scraps that I put in it. …

Kitchen Compost

Turn every day waste into kitchen compost. That of course is the general idea behind this article.

Compost is an organic substance that is added to the soil which functions more than just being a fertilizer. It is a mulch, a soil conditioner, and something that will help the soil give the best nutrients and minerals your plants need. With compost, the soil also is able to hold more water, which is also beneficial to your plants.

When composting, you will need materials rich in carbon and nitrogen namely fruits and vegetable scraps and other table scraps except left over bones because they attract a number of pests and animals. Other products include eggshells, grass or shrub clippings, pine needles, seaweed and kelp, coffee grounds, wood ash, tea leaves, cardboard and shredded paper, corn stalks, wood chips, and sawdust.

VIDEO # 9-GROWING LETTUCE-INDOORS-COMPOST TEAS ORGANIC FERTILIZER

Growing lettuce in baggies is very successful. Our elementary school grew over 500 heads of lettuce in baggies with this method. And these children supplimented the cafeteria’s menu with organic lettuce, they grew themselves.

This video contains;
1)How to Grow Lettuce indoors

2)How to Make Compost Tea-Organic Fertilizer

The success to growing healthy vegetables is the nutrients inside of the dirt and water. On our farm we made 5 gallon buckets of compost tea to fertilize our vegetable gardens. The results were extra large and healthy vegetables. My grandmother grew 40lb heads of cabbage with this method, and I use this to fertilize my grapes too. There is nothing to buy to make your own fertilizer, just utilize your kitchen vegetable scraps. NOTE: Do not make compost tea from cabbage, onions, fruit or meat. These attract bugs and flies. Also garlic is not used, because the garlic oil is aborbed into the plants you are growing, and they will have a taste of garlic.

Bruce Deuley & Bob Webster – Compost Tea (1 of 9)

An entertaining and insightful tag team effort from gardener & radio host Bob Webster & organic specialist & radio host Bruce Deuley. The subject is compost tea and how you can make a brewer yourself for less than $35. It was a bit chilly, but got pretty warm once the pavilion was filled to capacity. I had a laugh out loud moment when Bruce walked in (before I started filming) and was offered a compost tea handout by a nice lady (who didn’t know it was Bruce). Bruce was a sport and said it would help him sound like he knows what he’s talking about. Good times!

Bruce’s tea bucket design placed 2nd as judged by Dr. Elaine Ingham (http://www.soilfoodweb.com/). This is impressive considering other contenders tea makers range from $1000 and up!

Here is Bruce’s guide for the DIY compost tea maker: http://dchall.home.texas.net/organic/teamaker/

Compost Tea Seminar w/ Bruce Deuley (Part 2 of 6)

Organic specialist & radio host Bruce Deuley gave this seminar on Compost tea @ the Antique Rose Emporium in San Antonio, TX on October 14th, 2007. Bruce discusses the importance of compost tea and provides some insight into creating your own homemade DIY compost tea maker.

Forgive the audio- its rough in places due to several combined factors (such as a windy day, rattling Radio Flyer wagons and planes passing overhead).

Instructions for the compost tea maker can be found here:
