How do I stop my kitchen compost bin from smelling?

Where I live we have to compost almost everything – meat, pasta, veg peelings, tissues etc. They've given us a small bin for the kitchen and a big wheely bin to put out each week. We use biodegradable liners in the kitchen bin, and transfer that to the big bin when it is full. Since there are only two of us, and we're quite thrifty with food, it usually takes a whole week to fill the small bin. In the winter it was fine, but now it's getting warmer the bin stinks after a couple of days. Any advice on this? If we empty it more often we'll end up using loads of bag liners (which are not cheap!), and if we use a big liner in the wheely bin it'll never be full, which also seems like a waste of resources. I've tried putting kitchen roll and a sheet of bounce in the bottom which helps a bit, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Put it outside.

I'm surprised about the meat as that's the part that stinks so quickly!

Frankly what I'm going to say may seem gross, but put your garbage in a nonporous plastic vessel and put it in the refrigerator or if you have a freezer, there. Add to it daily (of course the tissues don't have go stay cold) and then when you have enough to take outside, transfer it there.

Skip the liners all together, and just empty the kitchen bin every day or so and give it a wash.

Empty it every day & it should be OK. Wash out thoroughly each time with hot water & detergent, rinsing carefully.

I'd skip the liners and just take it out to the bog bin everyday. wash it out with warm water and dish detergent every time after you dump it out.

Can you keep the bin in the fridge near a box of baking soda. Or get a plastic lidded container to keep stuff in the fridge and add to it. I thought meat wasn't compostable?

Duh – I must have been reading but not paying attention – I agree with fluffernut :)
